Super Nova of The Month: Andrew Butler
Congratulations to Andrew Butler,
Our October 2026 SuperNova!

Andrew has been training at Nova for over a decade. During that time one of his longtime coaches, Zack Fernandez encouraged him to step outside his comfort zone and take on something he had never considered before - a triathlon. That nudge changed everything. What started as a single event became a lifestyle, and Andrew has never looked back.
Today Andrew trains consistently, competes in triathlons and lives by a set of habits and values around health that most people only talk about. We sat down with him to hear his story in his own words.
👉 Read on to hear Andrew’s story.

Mindset & Motivation
You’ve been known for your interest in triathlons. Tell us how you first gained an interest to compete and why you still incorporate triathlon training into your weekly schedule?
"I’ve always been intrigued by triathlons and really admired the people who could push themselves both physically and mentally to compete in those events. Coach Zack had been asking me about my fitness goals and suggested a sprint triathlon. I had previously completed a half marathon and participated in a couple of bike tours, but never really considered the possibility of a triathlon. Zack’s guidance and encouragement helped to give me the confidence to take on the bigger challenge of a triathlon.
During my training process, I dedicated my Sunday mornings to completing my own version of a sprint-triathlon. It was very helpful in my preparation, and it’s now become part of my fitness routine. I genuinely enjoy the training, and the satisfaction that comes with it.”
How has your commitment to your health and fitness changed how you see yourself?
"My commitment to health and fitness hasn't fundamentally changed how I see myself so much as validated what I already believed about myself. I've faced difficult challenges before, but consistently prioritising my health reminds me that discipline, perseverance, and self-care are values I genuinely live by. It's less about feeling more confident and more about feeling aligned with the person I want to be."
Training & Progress
You have trained at Nova for over a decade with the same coach. What does that kind of long term coaching relationship mean to your progress?
"It's incredibly meaningful to have trained with the same coach for so long. Zack has been a constant presence in my fitness journey - supportive, encouraging and always knowing when to challenge me the right way. I always looked forward to our Friday training sessions. What makes that relationship so special is that Zack truly practices what he preaches. He leads by example every day and that means a lot to me."
What recent health, strength or fitness accomplishment are you most proud of and why?
"My proudest recent accomplishment is maintaining consistent triathlon training while balancing work, life, and recovery. It’s not a single moment - it’s the discipline of showing up week after week. That consistency has kept me strong, healthy, and mentally sharp, and it’s something I’m genuinely proud of.
A quotation that has always motivated me is….” In the battle between rock and water, water always wins. It’s all about persistence.” I often recite this line in my head when I’m dealing with something difficult."

Lifestyle Changes & Challenges
What are small habits you incorporate with your wife Cheryl to live a healthy life together?
"Cheryl and I believe healthy living is built on simple habits that we can maintain consistently. We make time for exercise, focus on eating balanced, nutritious meals, and try to keep a consistent sleep schedule. Those routines help us feel our best and provide opportunities to connect each day.
Even when we're on holiday, staying active is part of how we enjoy our time together. Whether it's walking, hiking, sightseeing, or exploring a new place, movement is always part of the experience. For us, living a healthy life isn't about perfection. It's about making small, sustainable choices that support our well-being and allow us to enjoy life together. As Cheryl always says, quality over quantity."
What has been the most challenging part of the year for you so far when it comes to your overall wellbeing?
"The most challenging part of the year has been managing stress and not spending too much time in my own head. I can sometimes overthink things, which can take a toll on my overall wellbeing. Fortunately, training has been one of the most effective ways for me to manage that stress. Whether it's a swim, bike ride, run, or workout, exercise helps me clear my mind, regain perspective, and stay grounded. This past year has reinforced just how important physical activity is, not only for my physical health but for my mental wellbeing as well."
Future Focus
What does success in health and fitness look like for you going forward and are there new goals you are focused on next?
"Success for me means staying active, strong, and capable as I get older. It’s about quality of life, not just performance. My next goals are to continue improving my triathlon times, maintain consistent strength training, and keep building habits that support long-term health and wellbeing. I want to stay fit so that I can enjoy life fully."
